Bruce Silverstein Gallery presents Jesus Christ Superstar an exhibition of 140 years of Jesus Christ in photography.
Jesus Christ Superstar is an incarnation of the exhibition Corpus Christi: Representations of Christ in Photography 1855-2002, conceived by Nissan N. Perez, curator of the Israel Museum. This show investigates how, through the historical lens of photography, artists have worked to solve questions of religion and spirituality using the symbols of Christ within the language of faith. Engaging religious images or images related to religious subjects, these artists share a genuine desire to express conflicts, convictions and perspectives found in the evolutionary mythology of Jesus and the matrix of faith.
