Sarah Sense in her studio
Sarah Sense is a Sacramento, California-based artist who tells stories of Indigenous peoples through Native American weaving techniques. Her latest project, Power Lines, includes several maps and documents she found in the British Library’s archives.
Her research on Indigenous communities brought her to the British Library, where she won an Eccles Fellowship. Sense found many colonial North American maps in the Americas collection, as well as letters and other records, some of which are centuries old. She wove these items to create Power Lines, an exhibition on display at Bruce Silverstein Gallery in New York. Her pieces tell the story of Native Americans’ relationships to the land they were often forced from.
