For the Armory Show 2015 Bruce Silverstein Gallery proposes an exhibition with a theme and focus encapsulated by the title, "Low Culture". Spanning multiple decades, but prioritizing the 1970s-90s, the exhibition will focus on photographic works in which the artist has utilized commercial, ubiquitous, or quotidian, products, objects, food, signage, and other effects in order to create a composition defined by its formalistic qualities and artistic nature in contrast to the subject matter. The exhibition will include works by Paul Outerbridge, Brancusi, Andre Kertesz, Josef Sudek, Sandy Skoglund, Irving Penn, Roe Ethridge, Jan Groover, Marie Cosindas, Wolfgang Tillmans, William Eggleston, Stephen Shore. The intent of this grouping of works is to indicate the artist's exploitation of the democratic nature of the photographic medium and its tenuous relationship to low culture.
